This song always gives me a unsettled feelings, because I am not sertain of the context of the words used. This is why during this Shabbat I didn't sing it with the rest of the congregation, high time to study this out and come to a scripture based conclusion.

'God van het licht', translated literaly 'God of the light' sounds like correct theology, but is it? and what do they mean?
Do they mean that God is the God over the light, like if light would choose whom to serve it would choose God. Or does it mean that he is the God of good
Does this mean that He is the God of the light, if light would be a person, God would be his God. To make it more simple, with in my opinion more meaninful terms, and with the context I gather from the bible verses, the writer(s) of the song mean it to say. Yahweh is Elohim of the light. I don't know if this is taking things to literal, but in my opinion is Yahweh, El Elyon, there is no one higher. He is the God of everything, doesn't matter if you choose to worship him or not, that doesn't change his title.
