1 In den beginne schiep God den hemel en de aarde. 2 De aarde nu was woest en ledig, en duisternis was op den afgrond; en de Geest Gods zweefde op de wateren. 3 En God zeide: Daar zij licht! en daar werd licht. 4 En God zag het licht, dat het goed was; en God maakte scheiding tussen het licht en tussen de duisternis. 5 En God noemde het licht dag, en de duisternis noemde Hij nacht. Toen was het avond geweest, en het was morgen geweest, de eerste dag.

6 En God zeide: Daar zij een uitspansel in het midden der wateren; en dat make scheiding tussen wateren en wateren! 7 En God maakte dat uitspansel, en maakte scheiding tussen de wateren, die onder het uitspansel zijn, en tussen de wateren, die boven het uitspansel zijn. En het was alzo. 8 En God noemde het uitspansel hemel. Toen was het avond geweest, en het was morgen geweest, de tweede dag.

6 In de hemel bouwt Hij zijn opperzaal, En grondt zijn gewelf op de aarde; Hij roept de wateren van de zee, En stort ze over de aarde uit: Jahweh is zijn Naam!

6 The One who builds His upper chambers in the heavens And has founded His vaulted²⁾ dome³⁾ over the earth, He who calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the face of the earth, The LORD is His name.

18 Hebt gij met Hem de hemelen uitgespannen, die vast zijn, als een gegoten spiegel?

18 “Can you, with Him, spread out the skies, Strong as a molten mirror?

27 “When He established the heavens, I was there, When He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep, 28 When He made firm the skies above, When the springs of the deep became fixed, 29 hen He set for the sea its boundary So that the water would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth;

22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates⁴⁾ of the sky were opened.

23. And he entered in the sixth (year) thereof, in the second month, on the new moon of the second month, till the sixteenth; and he entered, and all that we brought to him, into the ark, and the Lord closed it from without on the seventeenth evening. 24. And the Lord opened seven flood-gates of heaven, And the mouths of the fountains of the great deep, seven mouths in number. 25. And the flood-gates began to pour down water from the heaven forty days and forty nights, And the fountains of the deep also sent up waters, until the whole world was full of water.

1 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights! 2 Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts! 3 Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all stars of light! 4 Praise Him, highest heavens, And the waters that are above the heavens!

9. Now this world is encompassed by seven heavens, in which dwell powers and angels and angels and archangels, doing service to God, the Almighty and Maker of all things: not as though He was in need, but that they may not be idle and unprofitable and ineffectual. Wherefore also the Spirit of God is manifold in (His) indwelling, and in seven forms of service is He reckoned by the prophet Isaiah, as resting on the Son of God, that is the Word, in His coming as man. (Isaiah 11:2) The Spirit of God, he says, shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, (the Spirit of knowledge) and of godliness; the Spirit of the fear of God shall fill him. Now the heaven which is first from above, and encompasses the rest, is (that of) wisdom; and the second from it, of understanding; and the third, of counsel; and the fourth, reckoned from above, (is that) of might; and the fifth, of knowledge; and the sixth, of godliness; and the seventh, this firmament of ours, is full of the fear of that Spirit which gives light to the heavens. For, as the pattern (of this), Moses received the sevenbranched candlestick, that shined continually in the holy place; for as a pattern of the heavens he received this service, according to that which the Word spake unto him: (Exodus 25:40) Thou shalt make (it) according to all the pattern of the things which thou hast seen in the mount.
