How to study the Bible for yourself

I do not agree with a lot of the doctrines described in this book, but there is a lot of wisdom on how to study which we can apply in our own studies.

This is a summary of all the information presented in the book by Tim LaHaye, How to study the Bible for yourself. But without most of the fluf and 'bad' doctrine

1. Zoek het onderwerp op in een goede concordantie (editors note, wouldn't recommend, let the Bible define your definitions)
2. Schijf op een vel papier ieder nieuw idee over het onderwerp op. Begrijp dat vele lessen of ideeën herhaald worden in de Schrift tegen verschillende mensen of door verschillende schrijvers. Als God iets zegt, onthult dat zijn gedachten over het onderwerp.
3. Zoek alle verwijzingen naar dat onderwerp op, in het bijzonder die in het Nieuwe Testament en die naar de wijsheidsboeken in het Oude Testament. (LaHay doesn't want you to look in the Pentateuch, you might learn that God's commandments are for today, Shabbat Shalom!)
4. Bestudeer je notities zorgvuldig. Herlees ze meerdere malen todat de algemene lessen je duidelijk worden. Leraren zeggen dat herhaling een hulp bij het leren is.
5. Begin met het maken van een lijst van de ideeën of basisprincipes die God onderwijst over dat onderwerp. Dit moet op één of maximaal twee pagina's passen.
6. Probeer je analyse over dat onderwerp te reduceren tot een paragraag (maximaal een halve pagina).
7. Neem een goed bijbels woordenboek en anderzoek de definitie van dat zelfde onderwerp. Als jouw analyse duidelijk verschilt van die uit het boek, dan moet je teruggaan naar de eerste pagina van je documentatie en je analyse om te zien of je iets gemist hebt in je eigen studie. Als dat zo is, schrijf dan in een paragraaf waar je het mee eens bent en in een andere waar je het niet mee eens bent. Als je het eens bent met het woordenboek, prijs dan de Heer en ga verder met het volgende onderwerp (!)

8. Geef hem een opdracht voor de komende week.
9. Eindig samen een tijd met gebed, waarin jullie beiden bidden.
